Irvington is a neighborhood located in Indianapolis, Indiana. This community was named for 19th-century author Washington Irving. It used to be a suburb of Indianapolis from 1870 to 1902 when it then was annexed by the city. Because of its historical significance, Irvington became part of the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Once you settle in, you’ll notice that Irvington is a very family-centered and amiable community. It holds many events that bring neighbors and friends together. One of those events is the Irvington Farmers’ Market, one of Indianapolis’ most famous farmers’ markets. It operates from June to October at Ellenberger Park. Another event, which is perfect for families, is the Irvington Halloween Festival. It features contests, musicians, a 5K run, ghost tours, and more. This neighborhood is also a hub for the arts. It’s home to the Irving Theatre, a place where you can see films, local bands, and community/private events. It even runs a non-profit community radio station: WOOT-FM. The Bona Thompson Memorial Center used to be a library on the original Butler University campus. Today, it holds historical documents and art collections, and you can also use it to host special occasions. Between Shortridge Road and Arlington Avenue, you’ll find Pennsy Trail, a 1.2-mile paved trail used for jogging, walking, or cycling. It’s the namesake of the Pennsylvania Railroad, which existed in that area until 1982 when its tracks were removed. Irvington has a nice selection of schools: two public elementary schools, two public high schools, and one Catholic school.

Many homes in Irvington possess the following styles: Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Victorian Gothic among other vintage styles.
